So that's why there's a shrine in my living room

    Danny Thomas, that great entertainer who blessed St. Judes Hospital, once said, "Show me my way in life and I will build you a shrine."
     Totally apart from what he might have meant, his quote caused me to look back over my life as the Senior Sooner this day and realize that is precisely what I have done with my home. It is an apartment-size shrine to Sooner football and OU sports. Really. No kidding. For proof take my virtual tour at seniorsooner.com.
     OU's School of Journalism, especially coupled with Sooner sports, paved my way throughout my nearly 80 years:

     First there was a 20-year sports editing career at Oklahoma City, Phoenix and Albuquerque where I was privileged to cover Orange, Sugar and Fiesta Bowls as well as numerous Red River Shootouts and Bedlams.
     Then the ethics and abilities I learned at OU enabled me to successfully become a communications strategist, political website director. campaign message manager and ghost writer.
     As the Senior Sooner, who from Bud to Barry to Bob to Brent has pretty seen it all, I look back on my 79 years now to see that Oklahoma University, as God would direct, has been the central theme throughout my life.
     So when I came across the quote by Danny Thomas, I immediately looked across my living room at the, uh, mountain of freebies left from this past season, I saw what you likely would say is a shrine.

     I didn't make one on purpose. But I had to set up a table in my living room to manage the hundreds of freebies I gave out this past year in encouraging fans to CHEER like a champion as OU seeks to play like one in the SEC. And when the season ended, I had a lot left over, of course hoping the Sooners would advance. And it all got stacked on that table, making an immediate "shrine."
