Best dressed for expressive clothes
Not Sooner forgotten:
The Senior Sooner got into creating outrageous clothes when the economy cost me my season tickets, leaving me even unable to buy OU's most impressive shirt for that season.
What's more, typical red shirts with little white OU logos that you find on store racks just weren't expressive enough. Not after all I've experienced with the nation's all-time greatest program.
Sooo I sought to make my own.
My stated goal is to somehow make Sooner Nation loud and proud of what fans wear during the week, not just on game days. But not to create a business for me, mind you. Goodness, I'm almost 80.
No, I seek to fan OU fans into flame so that licensed companies will supply more expressive wear for those who want to better honor this bluest of blood program.
No traction yet, but I have a wonderfully extensive collection of outrageous garments that absolutely scream Oklahoma sports.
I first started crafting jerseys then shirts, sweatpants, jeans, shoes and finally jackets. To do this I had to economically obtain several machines, turning a bedroom over time into a work room. I use a Cricut cutting machine and feed a heat press with three different types of printers. I now can make most anything you'll see in a store. Here's an example:
Like a crow attracted to bright, shiny things, I've admired Mr. OU's eye-catching giant chain necklace. Ah, but such would conflict with my game-day uniform since I already have a megaphone around my neck.
However, while carving Sooner sculptures out of Styrofoam, I couldn't help but see how a big OU could be hitched to a big crimson chain (available online for $8) to garner a prize otherwise sold for $25. I'll just wear it during the week.
Sadly I cannot sell any of my creations because I don't have a trademark license. They're like buying a yacht: if you have ask the price you can't afford one.
So I give away an assortment of my handcrafted items with the encouragement to CHEER like a champion. The past two football seasons Coaches Corner has allowed me to set up a table on game days to give away wide varieties of buttons and earrings, as well as coasters, flags, megaphones, iron-on patches, magnets, pens, keychains and badges, with stickers and pinwheels for the kids.
I also honor OU's softball, gymnastics and basketball teams with items -- all out of my pocket hoping the freebies will get people to better demonstrate their love and support of Sooner athletics.
I've used my machines to generate my over-the-top uniform. I wear football pants to games with shoulder pads under a customized "Senior Sooner" jersey. I've electrified the getup with scrolling messages in addition to a cap and shoes that glow crimson.
Bottom line: I'm a cheapskate, true, but I do what a poor guy can while looking absolutely outrageous in support of the Sooners. BOOMER!
